Scope and Contents Most of the correspondence is letters to Norton Pearl, Betty Beeby, and Jane Beeby, but letters to other family members (Ethel, Myrtle, and Dorothy Pearl, etc) are included as well. In addition, the collection also consists of letters to Loran Post, the Dahne family, Henry Graves, the Waite family, and the Yunker family. The diaries belong to John W. Jacob Hampton Civil War Letter

Scope and Contents

The collection contains one letter dated November 13, 1864 by Civil War soldier Jacob Hampton (1847-1929) from Pavilion, Michigan while enlisted in the First Regiment Michigan Engineers and Mechanics and addressed to his sister while stationed in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In the letter, he discusses daily life and reports on Confederate troop movements.

Abstract

This collection consists of papers and materials relating mostly to Joseph Dorr Waterman and his mother, Mary C. Waterman (later Simonds). The collection contains the correspondence and financial records of these individuals. There are also items not related to the Waterman/Simonds family, including a wallet, Civil War era letters and keepsakes, and advertisements for Kalamazoo businesses. J. Dorr Waterman was a resident of Kalamazoo from 1857-1883.
